Our Story: Where Ecology Meets Efficiency
EP Ecology was founded by Erik Paterson CEcol MCIEEM in 2020 with a clear mission: to provide high-quality ecological services that genuinely improve biodiversity outcomes, without holding up development timelines. Drawing on Erik’s extensive field experience and passion for conservation, we set out to create a consultancy that does more than minimise ecological harm, it actively promotes habitat enhancement and sustainability across Scotland.
Operating from our Blantyre office, our team of in-house ecologists and trusted associates support everything from small residential planning applications to large-scale infrastructure developments. Our collaborative, transparent approach ensures each project gets bespoke ecological advice that’s grounded in the latest legislation and best practice.

Erik Paterson CEcol MCIEEM
Founder, Chartered Ecologist, and Registered Practitioner
Erik brings deep knowledge and practical field experience to every project, having worked extensively across Scotland on a range of ecological surveys. He’s passionate about helping clients navigate complex planning requirements while ensuring nature is protected and enhanced. The EP Ecology logo—based on the scale pattern of a male adder (Vipera berus)—is a nod to Erik’s fascination with the UK’s only native venomous snake and our commitment to native species protection.
